How the Autocue/ Teleprompter Works
The Autocue/ Studio Teleprompter Unit is mounted in front of the camera, leaving the camera operator free to operate. The script is displayed from a monitor facing upwards, and reflected off two-way glass at 45 degrees, so the presenter can see it.
Meanwhile, the camera is positioned horizontally behind the glass, with a black hood blocking out the background- so the presenter is looking straight down the lens as they read the script.
An experienced operator scrolls the script to match the presenters speaking speed. Script changes can be made on the spot- and in between takes if needed,

Rigging an autocue at the Haymarket Theatre Royal, Central London- filming on the set of Only Fools & Horses live show for a Channel 4 production. The autocue is typically rigged around 90 minutes before shooting starts, leaving time for last minute script tweaks. We always carry spare glass in the unlikely event of breakages.
